MAINTENANCE III - JOB DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

Under basic supervision, performs a variety of tasks in keeping the cleanliness of Parks and Recreation facilities, and performs related work, as required. This position is full time year round. 

 

SALARY

$16.50-$18.00 per hour. Depending on experience. 

 

HOURS

30-40 hrs/week. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Those working as Maintenance III may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Clean Facilities - Dust/clean surfaces; Sweep/mop floors; disinfect tables and chairs; empty trash cans; wipe glass doors and windows; disinfect door handles and light switches
  • Clean Bathrooms - Sweep/mop floors; disinfect stall latches and flush handles in bathrooms; clean toilets; empty trash cans; stock bathrooms with paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other essential items  
  • Maintain cleanliness of Parks - Empty trash cans at parks; clean/maintain upkeep of park signs; pick up litter around parks and facilities  
  • Prepare Rental Rooms for Events – maintain cleanliness of tables and chairs; maintain cleanliness of rooms prior to and after event  
  • Observe and maintain established District policies and procedures and take appropriate precautions to preserve their own safety and others during the course of performing daily tasks.  
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner; and perform related duties and responsibilities, as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma OR GED equivalent

 

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic cleaning tools  
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required  
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of custodial work 
  • Skill in providing efficient customer service and communicating clearly and objectively both verbally and in writing.   
  • Skill in organizing with the ability to prioritize work and exercise independent judgment, wisdom, common sense, and initiative.   
  • Skill in thoroughly carrying out oral and written instructions.   
  • Ability to lift and transport materials and supplies weighing up to 100 pounds.   
  • Ability to use patience, tact, diplomacy, and courtesy in dealing with the public and employees.   
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including District staff, community groups, and the general public; and applying safe work practices. 

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, both indoors and out, with exposure to wide temperature variations, noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.  Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts. 

  • The estimated working positions will be standing, and walking approximately 90% of the time.
  • Occasionally climbing stairs, ladders, and crawling.
  • Occasional reaching overhead and stretching, kneeling and squatting.
  • Some bending and occasional work on rough, uneven terrain.
  • Occasional handling and dexterity.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying abilities under 100 pounds.
  • Reasonable accommodations provided.

 

MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND FINGERPRINTING

  • If required, individuals must pass the District pre-employment medical examination.
  • Individuals must be fingerprinted and meet legal requirements to work as a supervisor or disciplinary authority over minors. 
  • In accordance with District Policies individuals may be subject to drug testing.
