Funding for the Program

Major program funding comes from the Federal level (authorized by the Older Americans Act), matching State grants administered by the CA Department of Aging, and USDA meal reimbursement.

Seniors are given the opportunity to support their program with a suggested meal donation of $3.00 for congregate meals (meal sites) and $3.50 for home-delivered meals.  Seniors are encouraged to also donate for daily round-trip transportation.

Federal and State grant funding covers only a portion of actual meal costs.

Additional donations are always appreciated, and are critical to keeping senior services fully funded.

The Senior Nutrition Program holds an annual dinner/auction fundraiser – “A Little Bit of Italy” – to benefit senior meal services.

The 2018 fundraiser was held on Saturday  May 5 at the City Park Recreation Center.

Event proceeds will exceed $9000+ !!!  Thanks to our many donors and community partners who made our event possible AND especially to those who attended in support of our seniors.

An independent organization, Meals on Wheels Shasta, supports the Senior Nutrition Program with regular fundraisers and individual efforts.  Visit their page on Facebook.
