Mt. Shasta Rec offers a wide variety of recreational programs for all members of the community.

Summer 2011

The Mt. Shasta Recreation District opens registration for all summer programs on June 1. Registration is taken at the District office, MS City Park – Recreation Center, daily from 10:00-4:00pm (open Noon-1:00).

Headwaters Adventure Day Camp – The popular summer day camp program for kids ages 5-12 runs from June 20 through August 5. Sign-Ups Start June 1st at Recreation Office/MS City Park (10-4pm) 926-2494.  Click for complete information on our Headwaters Adventure Day Camp web page.

Siskiyou Jr. Golf – final registration closes Friday, June 10 !! Summer-long coed, instructional program for kids 8-18 – learn the game, improve your skills. Stroke clinics scheduled at MS Resort & Lake Shastina Golf Resort (6/14-6/30) – NEW  “Skills Day” July 7 (MS & Lake Shastina). Age division tournaments scheduled (7/11-8/15) at County-wide courses. Fee: $60. Family discount offered. Clubs can be provided, if needed.

Junior Giants Baseball – gets underway on July 5. Junior Giants is a 5-week co-ed, recreational baseball program, developed and sanctioned by the SF Giants, teaching fundamentals & baseball rules in a team format with emphasis on good sportsmanship & positive character development! Weekday, afternoon game schedule, no practices. Coaches needed ! ! Games at the MS Youth Sports Park (Lake Street). Age groups: 5-7, 8-10, 11-13. No Fee! Junior Giants hats & shirts provided to all players. Junior Giants Day at AT&T Park on Sunday July 24 – some complimentary tickets for players & coaches (further details to follow).

YMCA Youth Basketball Camp – Sponsored by the Yreka Family YMCA, this instructional, co-ed camp returns for its 7th year at the Sisson School Gym June 20–24. Open for grades 3-8. Camp Schedule: 8:30-Noon. Camp director is Coach Kale Riccomini, assisted by local coaches from various basketball programs throughout the county, as well as a few surprise guests! Registration thru the “Y” is open thru June 17. Fee is $40 if registered by June 15, $60 after June 15. A $10 discount is offered for each add’l. child registered in the camp. More Summer Basketball Programs !! – watch for details concerning several other youth
basketball programs being considered for the month of July. Weed coach Shari Marshall is planning to offer a Girl’s Basketball camp at Weed High School for 8th grade-high school seniors (date TBA). Nor-Cal Basketball Coach Derek Heath is planning a late July clinic at the Sisson gym – co-ed program for ages 6-17 (date TBA). More details to follow.

Martial Arts Mini-Camp – In partnership with the Mount Shasta Martial Arts Program, kids ages 5-15 are invited to participate in an exciting, three-day mini-camp at the Mount Shasta Martial Arts facility – July 5-7 from 10am-2pm. Participants will be introduced to the basics of Taekwondo, Judo, & Hapkido while focusing on the importance of self-discipline, self-training, self-respect, self-defense, & self-confidence. SWIM LESSON SCHEDULES for the Dunsmuir & Weed pools can be picked up at the Mt. Shasta Recreation office beginning June 6. Dunsmuir – lesson sign-ups begin June 13th – call Dunsmuir Rec.  235-4740. Weed lesson sign-up night – June 9 (6:30-8pm), daily office sign-ups beginning June 13 (1-4pm) call Weed Rec. – 938-4685.

SUMMER SWIMMIN’ FUN – The Dunsmuir pool opens for the summer season on June 13, followed by the Weed Community pool on June 15th. Call the Dunsmuir pool at 235-2339. Call the Weed Community Pool at 938-4701. Swim Team sign-ups are now underway. For information call Tami Frisbee at 938-1293.

SUMMER SKATING FUN AT THE RINK – Roller-skating & In-Line skating returns to the Rink at Shastice Park on Friday-Sunday evenings (6:30-8:30), beginning June 24. Skates are available for kids & adults or bring your own. Concessions on site and summertime music on tap. Enjoy a picnic dinner in the park & stay for skating! A minimal fee will be charged for skate time.


Winter 2010-11

Adult and Youth Hockey information can be found on our Siskiyou Skating Rink pages. Ice hockey is offered in late fall and winter, and roller hockey activities during the spring, summer and fall. Recreational ice skating lessons are also offered during the late fall and winter months.

Youth Basketball is offered in January and February. Instructional clinics for 1st through 6th grade kids, with league play for 3rd through 6th graders, takes place in the Sisson School gym.

Baseball, volleyball, soccer, summer youth daycamp and many other activities are available throughout the year. Square dancing, taiko drumming, drama and a wide variety of activities are carried out through the District by community groups and organizations.
